AI Governance for Financial Services: From Definitions to Decisions
By RJ Grimshaw · April 12, 2026
AI governance is not a compliance checkbox. It is the operational infrastructure that determines whether your AI investments produce results or liability.
The Four Governance Questions
Every AI deployment in financial services must answer four questions before go-live: Who owns this model and what is their escalation authority? How is the model output audited? What triggers human review? How are errors corrected and documented?
Built on AIEOG-Defined Terms
The U.S. Treasury AIEOG lexicon provides the definitional foundation. Governance frameworks built on these terms are defensible to regulators and auditors. Frameworks built on internal jargon are not.
Implementation Sequence
Governance must be designed before deployment, not retrofitted after. The sequence is: define scope, assign ownership, establish audit cadence, document escalation paths, train the team.
